People & Lifestyle
Life is a beach in Hawaii Kai - quite literally! Not only is this tropical paradise home to some of the most famous beaches in the world, but it also celebrates marina living at every turn.
Every kind of home, from townhouses and single-family residences to apartments and condominiums, offers direct access to marinas, docks, and boat slips. You don’t have to fancy yourself a ship captain to join the fun. Marinas also allow canoes, kayaks, and even paddleboards.
Members of this aquatic community love the active, sporty lifestyle and include hiking, golf, jogging, and swimming in their outdoor activities. Waterfront restaurants abound and residents can be found lounging with friends and sipping cocktails while watching the waves.
Dining, Entertainment & Shopping
Breathe in the fresh island air while you enjoy seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. With plenty of exciting menu options and lanai seating, you’ll get the best of Hawaiian cuisine and scenery. The Kona Brewing Co. brews the top-selling beer on the island. Scratch-made pizza, dock parking, and, of course, an extensive craft brew menu make this a go-to spot for residents.
Celebrate life’s special occasions and everyday moments at the award-winning Roy’s. This high-end bistro from Chef Roy Yamaguchi serves Hawaii-inspired cuisine, globally sourced wines, and a menu focused on the island’s freshest local seafood. Whether you lounge in the main dining room or choose one of the restaurant’s private rooms, you’ll love the breathtaking view of Maunalua Bay. Try house specialties like Roy's Hawaiian Pineapple Martini and the Lobster Bao Buns.
Pā´ina in Hawaiian means “gathering,” and that’s exactly the vibe at Paina Cafe. The atmosphere of creativity and fun make this hotspot not only delicious but also inspiring. Bring friends and enjoy lively conversation and, of course, poke bowls! Home of the original Poke Bowl, Pā´ina Café was named one of “The 17 Most Important Restaurants In Honolulu.”
Things to Do
Full of beaches and marina life, Hawaii Kai offers some of the most beautiful nature in the world. Grab your sense of adventure and head out to explore this fascinating place. Start with Hanauma Bay, a popular nature preserve featuring beaches, green sea turtles, parrotfish, and a protected marine ecosystem.
Adventures await at Koko Head Lookout. One of the most popular landmarks on Oahu's south shore, this incredible spot challenges the notion that life is all about the journey, not the destination… because this destination is breathtaking! The peak and the hiking trail leading up to it are visible from a distance, and you’ll have to trek up 1,048 steep stairs to get there. If you’d rather take it easy, head to the botanical gardens to check out the cacti and succulents, or hang with the horses at the stable.
Take the kids for an old-fashioned carnival experience, or just feel like a kid again at E.K. Fernandez Shows. This campy carnival offers a Ferris wheel, merry-go-round, boat rides, and kid swings, as well as food booths to fuel your fun.
For a more sophisticated night out, head to the Hawaii Kai Towne Center. This 27 acre, master-planned complex is home to the beloved Festival of Lights Boat Parade. A holiday tradition at the marina, boats decorated with colorful lights cruise the waterway around the Koko Marina perimeter. The Center is a regular stop for residents and offers a variety of retail stores, restaurants, and businesses. The beautifully landscaped center provides a lively schedule of events, a weekly farmer’s market, and plenty of entertainment.
